29/12/08 - Local Coastal Expert on BBC

Robin McInnes the retired Coastal Erosion Expert and Art enthusiast has combined his talents and produced a study of Coastal Erosion by looking at paintings over the last few centuries. He presented his findings recently to a Coastal Engineering Conference in Venice. The full story has also been featured on the BBC News Website at;

9/12/08 - Village Hall Bell Tower Dilemma

The old bell-tower at St.Lawrence village-hall needs restoration, repair or even removal for reasons of safety.
Quotations for the cost of the various options are being sought as well as the availability of any financial grants. Whatever is decided will be expensive.
What are your views regarding the loss or otherwise of this distinctive land-mark at our village-hall?
Please contact Management Committee Secretary Judy Stoneley on 852813 or committee member Vera Scott-Jackson on 730203, e-mail rayscott-jackson4@tiscali.co.uk
It is important that as many opinions as possible are represented.

19/11/08 - ST LAWRENCE IN PRINT !

One of the many projects the Community Association committee have been working on is the production of a booklet about our lovely village. Largely compiled by Dave Trevan, our resident horticultural expert, and Peter Noble, it contains information on the local flora, some historical background and descriptions of some delightful walks. 20 pages illustrated with full colour photographs and printed in the village in A5 format on high quality paper, it is hoped that residents and visitors alike will find it interesting.

We are pleased to say that it will be available in the Village Shop from Early December, priced £3.50. An unusual and attractive Christmas present perhaps!

3/11/08- It's the Talk of the Village

Almost everyone I have seen in the village today has asked if I know who is responsible for the completely inconsiderate firework displays of the last two nights?

Do you Know?

Was it You? - If so I would keep a very low profile, there's alot of angry people out there suffering from sleep deprivation!!

2 more emails regarding this have also been received - See Your Letters/Rants

2/11/08 - Don’t be a fireworks nuisance!

Here at web central we have been literally inundated with an email [See Rants] about last night's very late/early firework display.

Did you know?

It is now illegal to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am.

Breaking this curfew can lead to a fine [Upto £5,000 and even 6 months in jail!!!!]. On 5 November your display can continue until midnight. Exceptions have also been made for celebrating other special occasions like New Year, Diwali and Chinese New Year when fireworks can be set off until 1am.

29/10/08 - Missing Cat- Panic Over!!!

Zez has now been found safe and well, much to the relief of all concerned.

29/10/08 - Missing Cat- Hunts Road Area

Hi Folks,
One of our cats has gone missing overnight, very out of character.
He is a neutered jet black half Abyssinian male called Zez.
He is microchipped. Unfortunately we are away for a few days and Rick and Haz are looking after them.

Any information would be appreciated. Could you search your garages and sheds  and car boots as he is very inquisitive.

My mobile no. is 07938518553

many thanks,
Dave and Hazel

18/10/08 - Peace Garden Planting

At least17 villagers turned out to plant bulbs at the Peace Garden on Saturday 18th October.

The weather was glorious-bright sunshine, no wind and the planters were able to enjoy glorious sea views from the site.

A variety of bulbous species were planted including Narcissus (various cultivars),Galanthus (“Snowdrops”), Hyacinthus “Hyacinths”, Cyclamen, Crocus, Tulipa(Tulips)Endymion non-scripta(“Bluebell”).

We look forward to seeing these bulbs flower in the spring and develop in future years.

Many thanks to all the villagers and visitors who donated bulbs.

Some planters went on to do some more clearance of brambles and weeds.

Many thanks to Jill Fothergill and her team who provided tea coffee and biscuits for the hard working planters.
